“It's one of the things you can never really explain to somebody who doesn't have a child…because not only is everybody's journey different, but it's just one of the things you have to experience yourself”
Zamo Shamase
About the project
The theme: Motherhood
The question I wanted to look into: How has Motherhood changed you?
The focus: This edition of ‘Its Bigger Than Me was focused on how motherhood has or can change you as a person. Similar to the project with Alice Adepoju, I wanted to still highlight and focus on the beauty and honesty within motherhood! The aim this time was to look at it through a different lens to the ones I used with Alice Adepoju. With Zamo, I wondered if the focus could be shifted to change the dynamics of what people see? Most people would now see her as a mother first, but her existence didn’t start from the moment she gave birth. How has becoming a mother changed her view of life, people, things, herself etc. Using photography and video, I saw this project being a success if it shed light on how motherhood can change you, both positively and negatively.
